MSW Students
Internships are available for Foundation (1st year) and Specialization (2nd year) students. Specializations in Clinical Mental Health and Community Practice are best fit for work in ARMHS. Interns will work within our ARMHS team and have the opportunity to provide direct mental health services with clients. Interns will assume the role of Mental Health Practitioner working with clients in their homes or in the community to facilitate ongoing rehabilitation.
We provide mental health rehabilitation by looking at a client's functioning in relation to their mental health. We work with clients to develop goals that help them to gain new skills or redevelop old skills that have been lost due to mental illness. Goals that some of our clients work on are relationship building, self-esteem, self awareness, emotional regulation, anger management, coping skills for anxiety and depression, healthy eating, and community integration.
Interns will receive training, orienting, and experience writing Diagnostic Assessments, Functional Assessments, Individual Treatment Plans, Crisis Intervention Plans, Progress Notes, CAGE-AID, and WHODAS.
Interns will carry a small case load, team with other practitioners, collaborate with other service providers in the field, and advocate with and on behalf of clients in the community. Interns learn clinical writing skills and documentation using electronic health records. There is also an opportunity to create and co-facilitate psychoeducation groups with clients.
If interested, a small percentage of time may be utilized for Program Development, which may include: assisting with creating and updating systems, procedures and policies for best community mental health practices, grant writing, surveying and evaluating the ARMHS program from the client perspective, creating newsletters, and community outreach.
All interns sit in and participate in weekly programming meetings where staff build clinical skills and consult on cases. Interns receive 1 hour of individual supervision each week.
